Kevin’s update - January 18, 2023

Since August of last year, Yoss continued to battle different complications and underwent many different treatments in his fight against cancer. He had good periods and then times of fatigue and discomfort. Over the past month, Yoss was easily tired and was in and out of the hospital. Whenever possible he would still get together with friends and family, as well as attend Bible study and hit a few golf balls. Yoss always kept his “Yossness” giving people a hard time with his sarcasm and directness. You could say this was his love language of sorts. So many people have loved and supported Yoss, Ruth, Jacob, and Harry.

On Monday, January 16th things took a turn for the worse and Yoss was not able to maintain his blood pressure well, was having difficulty breathing, and was not comfortable in general. He was admitted to the ICU for closer monitoring and treatment. There was improvement on Tuesday and he was able to talk with family and friends. Tuesday night Yoss deteriorated and family was called in to be with him. In the morning of Wednesday, January 18th Yoss entered Heaven and celebrated his healed body, reunion with many family and friends, and worshiped with Jesus.

Thank you for all who have supported Yoss with phone calls, texts, gatherings, and his new favorite hobby, golf. It meant more than you know. Yoss said many times, “Love each other while you are here and not when you are gone.” It is important to show each other how much you care and to spend time together. Treat each other the kindness and respect, work hard, have integrity, and most importantly have a relationship with Jesus.

We will have a celebration of life for Kevin Yoss on Monday, January 23 at 12:00pm at Mission Hills Church in Littleton, Colorado. (620 Southpark Dr Littleton, CO 80120). The family would love to have everyone come and celebrate his life together. Law enforcement uniforms are optional as Yoss’ request was that people come as they are and not place their identity in being a cop.

In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to either the Voice of the Martyrs (https://www.persecution.com/donate/) or Samaritan’s Purse (www.samaritanspurse.org/).

To support Ruth and the boys with funeral expenses, donations can be made at https://rmpc.breezechms.com/give/online and select the Benevolence Fund – Yoss from the drop down.

Thank you for your continued prayers and support

Kevin’s update - August 18, 2022

About a year ago I shared about a Deputy, Kevin Yoss, that was diagnosed with cancer and was going through the beginning stages of treatment. I also shared about the opportunity to provide financial support through benevolence fund. Thank you so much for everyone’s generous support! It has been a huge blessing to the Yoss family.

Over the past few weeks, Yoss has had some medical challenges. He has had a great sense of humor through it all and continues to trust in the Lord for everything coming his way. In Yoss fashion, he loves to give people a hard time and put people in uncomfortable situations. Today, while at a summit for law enforcement and faith groups to come together, Yoss knew that the Sheriff from Jefferson County and I would be at the event together. He kept harassing us independently to hug each other for his sake and make sure there was photo evidence of it. He just wanted to give us a hard time and get a laugh out of it. Even in the midst of a hard season of his medical treatment, he finds joy in life and helps people smile, or at least be uncomfortable….

Today, Yoss was admitted again to the hospital. Prayers would be appreciated. Prayers for strength, energy, healing from infection, comfort for Ruth and his sons, wisdom for the doctors and medical team, and continued trust in the Lord for all that is to come. Yoss is not expecting any additional donations and does not want to be a burden upon anyone during these challenging times. However, many of us want to care for the Yoss family and support him in any way that we can. If you feel led, please do not feel any pressure, and would like to donate to the Yoss benevolence fund, please go to https://rmpc.breezechms.com/give/online and select the Benevolence Fund – Yoss from the drop down.

Also, if you feel led, please continue to reach out to Yoss. In Yoss straight way of communicating he says, be there for each other in life and not just when we are gone. Prayerfully he will be back up and running soon, spending time with family, playing golf, hitting balls at the driving range, and enjoying the fullness of life. Please pray for God’s presence through it all.

Kevin’s Story

Family and Friends, Kevin Yoss, who we all know and love, needs our help. Over the past few months Kevin had been struggling with some pain in his hip and was getting tests done to figure out what was going on. Kevin has maintained a healthy lifestyle, competes in the Scottish Highland Games every year, and was training to be in the best possible condition. Thinking his hip pain was a torn cartilage from lifting weights, he was seeing an orthopedic doctor. However, as a result of one of his scans he was referred to an oncologist, something no one wants to hear. In May, 2021, Kevin was diagnosed with prostate cancer that had metastasized to his hip and pelvis.

We know Kevin as a straightforward, hardworking, caring person, who holds people accountable for their actions, who puts others above himself, and does whatever is needed to support those around him. Kevin has been married to his wonderful wife Ruth for 19 years and they have two boys, Jacob (17) and Harry (14). Ruth is a stay at home mom who homeschools the kids. The Yoss family prioritized family, health, and education over many of the conveniences that most of us take for granted. By doing so, their family is extremely close and as you can imagine this is a difficult time.

Kevin has served in law enforcement for the past 23 years, the last 21 years at the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office in Golden, Colorado. Being a veteran of the department, many deputies looked to him for guidance and wisdom on how to respond in difficult circumstance and Kevin enjoys helping new or upcoming deputies be the best they can be. Kevin has been on FMLA leave since his diagnosis and most likely will not be able to return to work.

Kevin is undergoing treatment for the cancer to help shrink the tumors and improve his quality of life. The costs associated with the medications, tests, and other related things will continue to grow and add up. Thankfully Kevin had a few weeks of paid time off saved so that will help for the near future.

Since Kevin’s diagnosis, emotions have run high for Kevin, Ruth, Jacob, Harry, the extended family, co-workers, and friends. As a private person, Kevin was slow to share the news and is now beginning to reach out to others. Kevin said, “Family, friends, and faith in Jesus is what has been sustaining us.”

So many of us want to know what we can do or how we can help. There are a few things we can do. First is prayer, asking our Heavenly Father to intercede on Kevin’s cancer and heal him. Second, we can be a friend, stay connected, and support him in whatever way that he and the family need. Third, we can support Kevin and his family financially to offset some of their medical and related expenses and relieve this piece of stress.
